The European Commission has launched a new Women’s Charter, to mark International Women's Day. The Charter includes the Commission’s commitment to
eliminate gender inequalities in access to health care and to eliminate gender based violence. This commitment relates to both the domestic and foreign policies of the EC.

The Sophia Forum is seriously concerned that there
is no mention of HIV throughout the whole charter, despite the fact that
it is well known and documented that HIV is both a cause and a
consequence of gender based violence. (see
